It is based on the Intel 8086, of which it is a lower-cost, lower-performance version. It is best known for its use in the first IBM PC, by far the most widespread computer to use the 8088. The PC’s 8088 operated at a frequency of 4.77 megahertz. Depending on the model, the Intel 8088 performed between 0.33 and 0.75 million instructio
